What 20 years taught me to check before trusting anyone with a baby
It’s the same standard my grandbabies’ rooms are held to. Now it’s yours.
- How many babies per teacher, in my baby’s room, today?Good answer: under the Texas limit of 4.
- Does the state record come back clean?Check the Texas child care search before you go. It’s the state’s own site.
- Is every teacher background-checked and CPR certified? And how long has the infant teacher been there?
- Who will be with my baby every day?And will you call me first if something goes wrong?
- What does my baby do all day?Real curriculum, or just supervision?
Screenshot it. You’ll want it on every tour.
What you actually want
It isn't a handout. You want a place you can afford to keep all your kids in, that fits your real work hours, where they're learning, not just waiting for you.
You want the money to at least buy you some peace, and something real for your kids.
So here is exactly how Kidco makes more than one kid easier, from the rooms to the rides to the family discount.
What you actually want is boring
In the best way. You want to ask how your child's day went and get a real answer. You want to know the same teachers will be there next month.
You want to drop off and not spend the whole drive replaying that feeling. You want to be sure, one way or the other.
Here's what better looks like, so you can compare it with what you have now.
What you want isn't complicated
You want to watch them bloom: new words at dinner, counting the stairs, coming home proud of something they made.
You want them walking into kindergarten curious and confident, not a step behind kids who got a head start. You want the hours they spend away from you to actually build something.
Here's how to tell real teaching from babysitting, and what it looks like at Kidco.

You’re not overreacting

Maybe your maternity leave is almost up. Maybe you just know it's time to find care.
Either way, the closer it gets, the more it turns your stomach. Lots of moms cry in the car after that first drop-off, sometimes for weeks.
If that's you, you're not overreacting, and you're not the only one. And underneath it all is a worry you'd never say out loud: that needing daycare means you're somehow not doing enough.
You are. Choosing the right place for your baby isn't loving them less. It's loving them enough to be careful.

If you have more than one kid, you've got your own version of this. Maybe it's the cost, more than your mortgage some months.
Maybe it's two drop-offs and two schedules that leave you running on empty. Maybe it's needing a place open before your shift starts and after it ends.
Whatever brought you here, it keeps coming back to the money. If you've wondered how anyone affords this, you're not bad with money.
The cost of care is genuinely hard for most parents.

Maybe it's the vague answers at pickup. Maybe it's the teacher who never says one good thing about your child.
Maybe you can't even point to one big thing, just a feeling that something is off. So you talk yourself out of it.
Switching sounds like a hassle, and your child is used to it. Meanwhile the little list in your head keeps growing.
Plenty of moms feel exactly this and stay quiet. Your gut isn't the problem.

Maybe your toddler has been home with you, with grandma, or with a nanny you trust, and it worked, right up until it didn't. Then you started noticing: the kid down the street who already knows their letters, the milestones the pediatrician mentions, the quiet worry that your child is slipping behind before school even starts.
If you're lying awake over it, you're not being paranoid. These early years are when the gap either opens or closes.

Will your baby be known, or just watched?

You want the same warm faces to know your baby's name, catch the cry before it turns into a scream, and tell you how the day really went. That's how every room here works: your baby is known, not just watched.
The same familiar teachers, day after day, because a baby builds trust with people, not with a building. Two of those teachers are my own daughters.

Kidco takes babies from six weeks through age twelve, so the baby and the big kid are under the same roof. One drop-off, one pickup, and we drive to 6 elementary schools, so your mornings stop being a relay race.

That's what better looks like here: a place that has cared for Katy kids for 25+ years, with teachers who stay 5+ years, so they aren't gone by spring.
You shouldn't have to wonder who will greet your child tomorrow.

That's why every room here follows the Frog Street curriculum from infants through Pre-K. The learning is hands-on and teacher-led, not a tablet to keep the room quiet, so you can see what your child is working on.

My wife and I have had our kids here for over 10 years now... My youngest has been at the center since she was 6 weeks old... The staff doesn't treat my kids as just another paying family, they treat them as they would their own. When they tell my kids they love them, I know they mean it.

We are beyond impressed with the care and management of this daycare. When searching for a daycare, their 'zero citation' record with the DFPS was a major plus for us. The center is exceptionally clean and the actual teaching that goes on shows far more than what I had expected for our 22 month old. Moms, this is THE LEARNING center for your babies.

My daughter is only 18 months, she already knows all of her Alphabet and can count to 10 all in English and Spanish. She also knows a few of her sight words in both languages! The teachers are doing a spectacular job.

Don’t take anyone’s word for it

You can't feel trust from a website, and you can't get it from the word “loving” on a flyer. It comes from other parents, from what you see with your own eyes, and from how a center answers your hardest questions.
The parents above found a place that treats their babies the way they would treat their own. And when you miss your baby during the day, call the office any time and they will tell you how your baby is doing.

We can't make daycare free. Here's how we make more than one kid hurt less.
The family discount stacks on top of your offer, and meals are included, so you're not packing lunches for everyone on top of tuition. And if money is tight, ask about the state's CCS scholarship.
The income limits are higher than most families assume, and Kidco accepts it.

Some things really are just preferences. These aren't: high turnover, a teacher who brushes off your child, vague answers when you ask a direct question, or finding out about a bump days later.
Here there are cameras throughout the center, and you can call us any time for an update. You shouldn't have to chase answers about your own child.

Here's the one thing even the best nanny, grandparent or afternoon at home can't give them: other kids their own age. So much of getting ready for school is learning to share, take turns, wait and make a friend, and that only happens in a room full of other children.
At Kidco your toddler spends the day with a real class of kids their age, in English and Spanish.

Here is how we keep them safe
- Harris County Sheriff's OfficeAbout 370 feet behind our center.
- Cameras in our classroomsIf there is ever an incident, we can send you the photo or video.
- CPR certified and background checkedEvery staff member, no exceptions.
- Fewer kids per teacher, in every roomTexas allows 4 babies per teacher. We stay below that, so your baby gets real attention.
- All 1,264 state standards metIn our latest state inspection, including every infant rule.
One week free + no registration fee. Takes about a minute.

Teachers teaching, not screens
Our classrooms follow the Frog Street curriculum, from infants through Pre-K. Learning at Kidco is hands-on and teacher-led, not through screens.
- A plan for every ageEach room works on what fits that age.
- Kids their age to learn withEvery age group has its own room and its own teachers.
- Teachers who stayWith Kidco 5+ years on average, so your child sees familiar faces.

Even babies are learning

The first year isn't just naps and bottles. Your baby is building language, hitting milestones and learning how the world works, and here that happens in English and Spanish, with songs, tummy time and the Frog Street curriculum from the infant room up.
In the end, you'll know when you stand in the room. And when you find the one place you trust completely, you never have to shop for daycare again. We hope it's here.

A real learning center usually costs more than plain daycare. Here your kids learn in English and Spanish with the Frog Street curriculum, and we're open 6am to 7pm, so an early shift or a late meeting doesn't turn into a scramble.
After a tour, do the honest math and ask whether it feels like relief or more weight. We think it will feel like relief.

Better is also real teaching, in English and Spanish, not just a room where kids are watched. The hardest part of switching is usually the story you tell yourself about how hard it will be.
In reality, kids settle into a place that actually pays attention to them faster than you expect.

The goal isn't just to keep them another year older. It's to send them to school genuinely ready.
You'll know in five minutes: watch whether the room has a purpose or just noise, and whether the teachers are teaching or refereeing.
